A play on the tragedy of exam-oriented education

The late pioneering children’s theatre director Somalatha Subasinghe’s ‘Vikurthi’, a stage play that describes and analyses the tragedy of examination oriented education system in Sri Lanka, will be staged at 8.15 am and 10.45 am on June 20 at the Auditorium of YMBA Borella. The play is a prescribed text for the Theatre and Drama subject of the GCE Ordinary Level examination.

Kaushalya Fernando, Prasannajith Abeysooriya, Namal Jayasinghe, Geetha Alahakoon, Sulochana Weerasinghe, Migara Kanchana, Vikrama Senevirathne, Sanjaya Hettiarachchi, Nimmi Priyadarshani, Dilip Kumara, Dilum Buddhik and Harsha Thennakoon are in the cast of the play. Chandana Aluthge handles the lighting effects and “Vikurthi” is a semi-musical rich with music composed by M. R. Chulasinghe.

The play is organised by Jude Srimal.
