Children in Puttalam are in the forefront to hand over a petition to the President, against violence and humiliations faced by children. The Youth Front to fight ‘Violence against Children’, organised an educative programme and a street drama in Puttalam, appealing to the authorities to rise against humiliation and violence against children.

A group comprising Sinhalese,Tamil and Muslim children walked through the town, distributing pamphlets, to make people aware of such social evils, for which there was a great contribution from the people there.

The Organisation says that, though there are regulations and a network of institutions to protect the Rights of Children, a considerable number of children are subject to violence every day. “Hence, in such a situation, it is our responsibility and obligation to rise against such conduct.”

After the awareness programme, the Organisation is making arrangements, with the consent of the public, to send a petition to President Maithripala Sirisena.
