US$ 7.5m Korean govt aid to uplift Education sector in Kilinochchi

The Korean government is to provide US$ 7.5 million to improve Education facilities in the Kilinochchi District. This is the second phase of a project backed by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The agreement is to be signed shortly, Additional Secretary (School Affairs) Ashoka Senani Hewage said.

The funding will be from 2018-2022 for teaching of English, to improve Special Educational units, Activity Rooms, ‘Smart Classrooms’, Teachers quarters, Vocational Training Facilities and Library facilities and Lab and Science facilities.

Under the projects, 4 Model schools and 9 other schools have been targeted. The Model schools are Kilinochchi Hindu Primary, Piramanthanaru MV, Iyakkachchi GTMS and Mulankavil Primary Vidyayala, while the other schools are St Therasas Girls College, Kanakampikalkuam GTMS, Sivapathakalaiyagam GTMS, Ramanathapuram East GTMS, Pallai Hindu Primary, Soranpattu Ceylon Christian TMS, Mukkompan GTMS, Kariyalai Nagapaduvan No 2 GTMS and Iranaitivu RCTMS.

Previously, 10 schools were developed in the district. – DW
