Extra time for O/L, A/L question paper 2: MoE

View(s):

From this year onwards, GCE Ordinary Level and Advanced Level candidates will have 10-15 min. extra time to read and understand the second question paper which requires written answers, before commencing answering the paper, said Commissioner General of Examinations Sanath Pujitha.

He said the decision to increase the time to read and understand the questions, was taken after considering the current time allocated for reading the question paper and answering being insufficient. He said the additional time will be strictly for reading the question paper, and the supervisors will be providing the paper to write the answers only after the 15 minutes are over.

Mr Pujitha said a discussion will be held with the relevant officials including lecturers involved in preparing the question papers, to decide whether it should be 10 or 15 minutes.

He said that, usually, the time allocated was on the assumption that it was sufficient to answer the paper, but there may be students who need a few extra minutes to read and understand the question paper. He said some students may be affected due to the delay in reading and understanding the questions, than lack of knowledge to answer the questions.

Mr Pujitha said they would analyse the outcome of the decision when marking the papers. - Damith wickiremasekara
