The Coroner’s court in Colombo yesterday directed a doctor of the Castle Hospital to appear in court next week in connection with an inquiry over the death of a newborn child, following the parents’ claim that death was due to negligence.
The directive was given by Additional City Coroner Ms Deshani Samaraweera.

In the ongoing inquiry, the court has to date heard evidence of other staff and the mother. The mother of the child, S. Lakshmi, 34, said she pleaded with doctors to carryout a caesarian operation, all to no avail.
