The Exams Dept intends to introduce measures to arrest cheating at National exams, effective this year.
The measures will include employing additional invigilators, introducing several versions of the multiple choice questions, so that students cannot copy from their ‘neighbours’, and introducing jammers to block out signals from telecom towers near exam centres, to disable candidates’ hi-tech instruments and prevent copying at exams, is also being considered.

Commissioner General of Exams, Sanath Pujitha said the Dept has received several complaints from Teacher trade unions, of students copying at examinations, employing various tactics such as threats, and violence on bright students.

The Ceylon Teachers Union said that cheating is rampant in popular schools in Colombo and other cities. CTU General Secretary, Joseph Stalin said minority students are being threatened and coaxed into sharing their answers at examinations.
