New Year Festival of Samagi Adharsa Pre-school at Ranasiripura, Weerawila, was held at the school premises on Thursday (5), with the participation of teachers, parents and students. The children observed ‘Aluth Avurudu’ rituals such as kindling the fire at the auspicious time, consuming Aluth Avurudu sweets at the auspicious time, paying homage to elders, money transactions, visiting relatives etc. at the auspicious times.

Speaking to the media, School Principal Ms S.M. Geethanjali said, “There are 60 children in the school and 3 teachers. Both Sinhala and Muslim children attend this school. Muslim children also actively participated in the Sinhala Aurudu rituals. Muslim parents too rendered their fullest cooperation to make this festival a success. This is the only Pre-school in the Lungamvehera D.S. Division where Sinhala and Muslim children study together. Peace and harmony could be achieved in the area if there is a sponsor to develop this school,” she said.
