President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday said one of the key features of developed countries is that they had common goals and worked towards achieving them with dedication. Presdient Sirisena speaking at the final day of the ‘Yovun puraya’ organised by the National Youth Service Council at Nikaweratiya attended by some 7,000 youth from all parts of the country, said, that differences among people are always a set back to the country.

He also pointed out that instead of having common goals some had political agendas and personal goals. He said the challenge before the country was to learn from our history and from lessons gained in the past and strive for a better future.“We should be able to strive at meeting future challenges to create a better country for the present generation,” he said.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing the gathering said Sri Lankans have built unity ending a 30 year old war and all efforts should be made to maintain this unity.”We cannot allow hatred to be spread. The Facebook is a good tool which has many benefits. We will not ban it, but what we should do is to stop hatred being spread through it,” he said.

He also called on the youth to ensure that hatred in not spread in their villages.
The Prime Minister who arrived earlier in the day visited most of the stalls set up by the youth and also welcomed the President on arrival.
