Woman (39), daughter and 2 friends aged 14, drown while bathing in river

Four females, including 3 girls, all aged 14 years, drowned at around 2.30 p.m yesterday, while bathing in the Gin Ganga at Hiniduma, in the Galle district.
Police identified the victims as a 39-year-old woman, her daughter and her two friends.

Police identified the 4 victims as Shaymalee Anoma (39), her daughter Minurika Shaymalee (14) and friends Ravindi Yasasmini (14) and Kaveesha Anjalee (14).
The mother and daughter were residents of Hiniduma East, while the other two girls were residents of Tangalle and Mapalagama. The bodies of the victims were recovered and brought to Hiniduma Hospital.

Yesterday’s deaths brought to 4 the number of teenagers who drowned in the last 24 hours. On Friday (30), a 17-year-old boy was swept out to sea while bathing in Dehiwala. A search operation by the Navy and Police continued yesterday to locate his body. Police identified the victim as Chamara Roshan, a resident of Bodhirajapura, Werahera, in Boralesgamuwa.
