Chilaw Marians ended the Premier League Tier A inter-club first round matches by securing their fifth outright win as they signed off with a crushing innings and 184 runs win over SLPA CC in the match concluded at the Colts ground yesterday and this was their fourth outright successive outright win.

The two SLPA CC innings lasted only 57.5 overs. 28 wickets fell on the second day with SLPA CC being bowled out twice for 135 and 108.

Ragama CC was able to add only another eight runs on the second day as from their overnight score of 312 for 9 being bowled out for 320 against Bloomfield in the match played at Reid Avenue. But they secured a first inning lead by bowling out the home team for 273.

Saracens SC helped by a ton by skipper Harsha Cooray and half tons by Minhaj Jaleel, Thanuka Dabare and Saliya Saman made a massive score of 496 having continued from their overnight score of 347 for 5 against CCC who ended the second day on 140for 3 at CCC ground.

In the other three matches played at the SSC ground, BRC and NCC ground saw SSC, BRC and NCC taking first inning leads over Moors SC, Army SC and Badureliya CC respectively.

SSC openers and the former National opening duo Kaushal Mendis 142 and Dimuth Karunaratne 128 involved in a huge 274-run stand for the first wicket in their second.

The duo had been in great form lately and were featured in a similar feat weeks ago. SSC were not seen in good shape in the first innings after they were bowled out for 199 in the first innings after Tharindu Ratnayake captured a five-for.

But  the SSC bowlers, spearheaded by off-spinner Sachithra Senanayake attacked fiercely to restrict Moors to 160 runs and gain first innings points. With the massive partnership of Silva and Karunaratne, SSC were in a strong position at 357-3 when stum stumps were drawn. They are in line for a comfortable win if they act promptly.
