Zahira Kalmunai recorded the major upset on the opening day’s play of the Antonian Invitation School Sixes when they pulled off a shocking win over fancied Royal Colombo in a first round match played at the R. Premadasa Stadium.

Zahira Kalmunai having lost their first match to Isipathana came back to record a thrilling one run win in the low scoring game. The other stunning result was by Lyceum International School Wattala who beat host St Anthony’s Wattala by four wickets.

Apart from these two matches the other teams had fluctuated fortunes Jaffna Central, Ananda and Zahira Colombo winning their first match and then losing the second one.

Thurstan made the highest score of the day one when they scored 77 for 2 against Hindu College Ratmalana and along with Isipathana, Mahanama Colombo, Maris Stella and Nalanda won their matches.

In the only match of the girl’s category where three teams are playing saw Ratnavali Vidyalaya pulling off a thrilling one run win over fancied Anula Vidyalaya.

The Antonian Invitational Schools Sixes conducted by the class of 2006 of St Anthony’s Wattala which was founded in April 4 1942 under the leadership of Brother Vincent Joseph is being held in commemoration of the schools 75th anniversary.

The tournament is being participated by 28 teams around the island including from the north and east region which has been divided into eight groups.

The final set of first round matches are scheduled to be played in the morning session today which will be followed with the knockout matches from the quarter finals onwards which is slotted to be played from 2.30 p.m. onwards.
