As part of their 20th Anniversary celebrations, the Lanka Cavaliers will conduct their 5th  Invitational Six-a-Side Cricket Tournament with pomp and pageantry on September 16 at De Soysa Park Moratuwa, commencing at 8.30 a.m.

The tournament, a one day affair will be played on the same lines of Hong Kong International Cricket ‘Sixes’ with 12 handpicked teams, is jointly sponsored by Pack World (Pvt) Ltd and Singer Sri Lanka PLC.

The following 11 teams have consented to play: MCA Veterans, Vintage, Old Peterites, Old Parlians, Association of Professional Cricket Umpires (PCU), Old Thurstanites, Association of Cricket Umpires (ACU), Olcott Schools, Jaffna CA, Colombo Colts and Old Sebastianites. The 12th team, Sri Lanka Navy is yet to confirm.

The eligibility to participate in the tournament is quite unique. Out of the six, five playing members must be over 45 years of age and and the other playing member must be over 50 years of age.

The official sponsorship handing over ceremony was held on Monday, September 4 at the MCA Pavilion Lounge.

In the previous tournament held on August 7, 2016 at De Soysa Park Moratuwa, the Moratuwa Veterans led by Lucky Rogers Fernando beat MCA led by Wasanthalal Fernando by 16 runs in the final.

There will be four special awards on offer for the Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Best Fielder and the Most Senior player.

Former Sri Lanka wicket-keeper Mahesh Gunatillake will be the Guest-of-Honour at the opening ceremony and Sidath Wettimuny will be the Chief Guest at the final and will distribute the awards.

Inaugurated in 1997 with Bandula Warnapura as first president, the Lanka Cavaliers is currently celebrating their 20th Anniversary, under the Presidency of Damian Fernando.

In between Bandula Warnapura and Damian Fernando, there were four more presidents, namely, Lakith Peiris, Jayantha Seneviratne, Basil Perera and Upali Warnapura
