Trinity down Kingswood in cliffhanger

Trinity College clinched the All-Island Schools Under-16, 10-a-side Rugby Championship after a cliffhanger against hometown rivals Kingswood College at the Digana ground in Kandy last weekend. The final was tied at 12-all at fulltime after both teams scored from two tries and a conversion each but Trinity added an unconverted try during extra time to finish off by 17-12.

The victorious Trinity team was led by Minidu Jayasekara, who played a pivotal role to see his team finish off with an unbeaten record. Trinity’s Shehan Sirisoma was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament.

Dharmaraja College Kandy beat Science College 7-0 to clinch the Plate championship while St. Joseph’s College outsmarted Sri Sumangala Vidyalaya Kandy by 19-7 to win the Bowl championship. D.S. Senanayake College recorded a smashing 20-0 win against St. Anthony’s College Katugastota to secure the Shield title. The tournament was organised and conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association on August 19 and 20. The tournament was played at Trinity College ground in Pallekela and the Public ground in Digana on both days with the participation of 42 teams.
