A school sans a playground in the Negombo area, has been gifted with a 42-perch block of land for its playground, by a couple residing in the area.  Negombo Education Director K.A.C. Fernando, addressing the meeting held recently at Nimala Mariya MV, Bolawalana, to felicitate the benefactors Mrs Ravina Gomes and her husband Tyron Gunawardena, noted this was the 2nd occasion the zone had benefited from philanthropists.

He said, earlier a land was offered for the Zonal Education office. “Now, another philanthropist donates their inherited land as a play ground for the schoolchildren. It is indeed a priceless gift. What we have failed to do through textbooks in one year’s time, this couple has taught through their generous act,” he said.

Till now, the schoolchildren with no playground, had to go to a playground of another school for their outdoor activities. It was a long felt need, and the continuous efforts of former principals and present principal Mrs L.A.C.S. de Silva has borne fruit.
Blessing the donated land, Rev Fr Terrance Bodhiyagoda, Parish Priest of Bolawalana, said, “You should know that this generous couple too, has 2 children like you who are still going to school, and they have taken this decision with them in mind. It is for the benefit of you. It has happened according to the Will of God. So let’s first thank God for making this possible for them to donate this for your future.”

He further said, “This is a place where you will compete with others. You may win or lose. Then you should learn how to accept both victory and defeat in a modest way. This is a place you will grow physically as well as mentally. Learn the good values of life, then the donors will be the happiest among you.”

On a stage colourfully decorated, the deed of the land was handed over to the principal by Mrs Raveena Gomes.
