Zahira staged a last minute rally to topple Science College Mt. Lavinia 19-3 in the Inter-School rugby game played at the Air Force grounds in Ratmalana yesterday. At the breather Zahira led 13-8.

It was standoff Singhawansa who sealed the issue for Zahira by converting two penalties with barely six minutes to go to put the issue beyond doubt.

Science were close on the heels of the Zahirians but were never able to overtake their score.

Zahira scored first when winger M.F.Y. Lantra scored and Singhawansa was on target with the conversion to put them ahead at 7-0. Science replied with a penalty through V.S. Hansaga. Zahira 7. Science 3. Singhawansa converted another penalty and Zahira took the lead 10-3.

Science came back fighting and scored a try, far right through winger P.P.F. Rohan. Zahira led 10-8 at this stage. Just before the breather a Singhawansa penalty gave them the lead at 13-8 at lemons.

Science missed two easy penalties on resumption but managed to score a try through their full back Kumar Priyadarshana who joined the line and barged over for a try far right. This made the score 13 all.

When a draw loomed Singhawansa was on target with his two penalties to give Zahira a close win.     - Referee – Ajith Kumara
