Ananda’s opening batsman Sahan Suraweera became the second schoolboy cricketer to reach 1000 runs this season which he did it in style with a 103 ball knock of 104 in their drawn Singer Schools Under-19 cricket encounter against St. Joseph’s concluded at Ananda Mawatha.

Sahan achieved the feat on day and his knock comprised 11 boundaries and half a dozen sixes and he was involved in two fruitful partnerships first of 54 runs for the second wicket with Dushan Hettige and the other of 118 runs for the third wicket with Sammu Ashan.

Later Kavishka Anjula who made 73 put on a 102-run stand for the fifth wicket with Asel Sigera for Ananda to make a formidable score of 361 for 7 declared.

St. Joseph’s in their turn resuming from their overnight score of 61 for 5 succumbed to left arm spinner Dileepa Jayalath who ended with impressive figures of 7 for 22 as they were bundled out for 137.

Half tons by Mishen Silva and Tharusha Fernando helped St. Sebastian’s resuming from their overnight score of 14 for 1 to end their innings on day two with a formidable score of 300 to St. Aloysius Galle’s score of 270 which came on the back of a 125 made by Ashen Bandara in the match played at Moratuwa which ended in a draw.

Moratu MV after being bundled out for 98 in the first inning innings fought back to deny Holy Cross Kalutara an outright win and hold out for a draw in the match which ended at Moratuwa.

Benedictines beat   Anthonians by 5 wickets

In a low-scoring match at Pellekelle, the visiting St. Benedict’s team beat their Anthonian counterparts by five wickets.

The Bens who had taken a 26 run lead on day one, went on to dismiss the Anthonians for 127 – one less than their first innings effort.

Paceman Chamindu Wijesinghe had fine figures of 4 for 17. Theeksha Gunasinghe (25), batted best for the home team.

The 102 run target was reached for the loss of five wickets. If the Anthonians were looking for a morale booster before the big match, they were to be disappointed.
