Nipun Sumanasinghe, Cameron Guruge and Jehan Fernandopulle shone for St. Joseph’s domination against Trinity in their traditional Under-19 Inter-School drawn cricket encounter concluded at Darley Road yesterday.

Nipun cracked 158 in 183 balls. The inning included 19 boundaries and a six. Cameron and Jehan made knocks of 70 and 67 respectively. Nipun in the process was associated in two valuable partnerships. First was 183 runs for the second wicket with Cameron and the other of 140 runs for the fourth wicket with Jehan. St. Joseph’s in reply to Trinity’s score of 264 scored 357 for 6 declared.

S. Thomas’ recorded a comfortable first innings win over Wesley in their match concluded at Mt. Lavinia. The second day’s play saw Wesley continuing from their overnight score of 24 for 1 being bowled out for 190. This was in reply to the Thomian score of 306 which came on the back of an unbeaten 97 by Romesh Nallaperuma and a half ton by Dinura Gunawardena.

Half tons by Kavindu Gimhana, Dushan Hettige, Kavishka Anjula and Sahan Suraweera paved the way for Ananda to register a first inning win against Royal in the match which ended at Ananda Mawatha.

Ananda in reply to Royal’s 221 overnight score of 83 for 0 went on to make a score of 285 for 7 declared. DSS prevailed with a first innings win over St. Aloysius Galle in their match played at Pannipitiya. DSS after making a score of 306 bowled out St Aloysius for 169.
In the other matches that were played saw St Peter’s, De Mazenod and St. Patrick’s Jaffna securing first inning wins over Prince of Wales, Bandaranayake MV Gampaha and Ibbagamuwa Central.

Put into bat by Mahinda, the Dharmaraja batsmen occupied the crease for 74 overs and finished on 180 for 5. Only 74 overs were bowled, as the previous day’s rain prior to the game had affected the playing strip.
