President’s Cup Inter-School Invitation Football Tourney Semifinal today

The semi-finals of the President’s Cup Inter-School Invitation Football Tournament will take place today at the Racecourse grounds.

In the first semi-final scheduled for 2.30 pm between De Mazenod College Kandana and Maris Stella College Negombo. The second semi-final will be at 4 pm between Hameed Al Hussienie College and Zahira College Putlam.

In the quarter-finals De Mazenod beat Holy Cross Kalutara 2-0. The goals were netted by T.S. Nimshan and T.S.T.F. Gunasekera. Maris Stella beat St. Peter’s Bambalapitiya 3-2 on penalties as the game ended in a nil all draw at normal time. The goals were scored by J.S.T. Fernando (Maris Stella) and Mohammed Shabir (St. Peter’s College).

Zahira Puttalam beat Lumbini College Colombo 4-3. The goal scorers were J.M. Jaheer (2) and M.M.M. Mubarak (2). The goals for Lumbini were scored by J.A.L. Thanajaya (2), Mohammed Fahad (1).

Hameed Al Hussienie beat Nalanda College 4-0 with A.G.M. Sajid (2), M.K. Fazil (1) and S. Abishayan (1) scoring the goals.

Twenty invitation teams took part in the competition organised by the Group of 80s of Hameed Al Hussienie College. The main sponsors were I Dealsz Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.

The finals will be on January 22 with President Maithripala Sirisena as the chief guest.
