The penultimate day’s proceedings saw two Indian players Kunal Anand and Karunuday Singh wining their semi-final encounters played at the SLTA hard tennis in Greenpath Colombo to qualify to play in the final of the second Astoria Asian Tennis Tour tournament which is scheduled to be worked off today from 9.00 a.m. onwards.

The semi-final between Kunal and Suraj Prabodh saw being called off early as the latter retired due to an injury while Karunuday had an easy passage against his Pakistan opponent Heera Ashiq which he won 2-0.

The second round of the Astoria Asian Tennis Tour tournament saw the Indian players dominating proceedings with three of their players Suraj Prabodh who won the first round tournament three days ago, Karunuday Singh and Kunal Anand qualify to the semi-finals while Heera Ashiq of Pakistan booked the fourth semi final slot.

Two Sri Lanka players Dineshkanthan Thangarajah Yasitha de Silva was able to go up to the quarter final stage before they were soundly beaten by two Indians Karunuday Singh and Kunal Anand while the other Sri Lankan Viduba Wijebandara was beaten in a second round match.

The two women’s tournament will be played over this week with the first from January 16 to 18 and the second from January 20 to 22 at the same venue

Quarter Finals – Suraj Prabodh (India) beat Aaditya Tewari (India) 2-1 (5/7, 7/6, 6/2). Karunuday Singh (India) beat Dineshkanthan Thangarajah (Sri Lanka) 2-0 (6/2, 6/1). Kunal Anand (India) beat Yasitha de Silva (Sri  Lanka) 2-0 (6/4, 6/4). Heera Ashiq (Pakistan) beat Jatin Dahiya (India) 2-1 (6/1, 5/7, 7/6(2).

Semi Finals – Kunal Anand (India) beat Suraj Prabodh (India) 1/0 rtd. Karunuday Singh (India) beat Heera Ashiq (Pakistan) 2-0 (6/1, 6/1).
