Eating out is a Lankan pastime and you have to just count the number of restaurants and food outlets in your area to realise just how popular it is. But if the thought of whether all this is good for you niggles, Eat Right might be the best option. Having recently opened their first outlet in Kohuwela, Eat Right offers people a healthier alternative to fast food. And contrary to notions that healthy food is bland and unappetising, the dishes are tasty and appealing.

Eat Right began in 2015 as a delivery service which provides nutritious food to their customers. Their goal was to deliver food that is wholesome and healthy. There are three meal plans to choose from – the lose to win meal (for weight loss), the life meal (for people with heart disease, fatty liver etc.) and the care meal (for people living with diabetes). Each lose to win meal is only 400 calories, while the other options have slightly more calories.

Their delivery menu offers something for everyone – from wraps to koththu to rotti and lunumiris. The meals have been designed by the senior chefs of Eat Right and approved by dietician Sigrid de Silva. If you choose a package, each meal costs Rs. 450 while a standalone meal costs Rs. 550. For anyone interested in losing weight, Eat Right recommends their six-day package which comes with three meals and two snacks. Each meal is delivered fresh and they feel that all anyone on this package needs to do is have their own water or tea. This package would mean that customers get meals delivered from Monday to Saturday and only have to prepare meals on Sunday.

They also offer people the option of delivering meals for one day or a specific meal for the entire week. Eat Right believes that healthy eating is a lifestyle choice which that is largely based on choosing correct portion sizes.

The new Eat Right outlet is a place where people on a meal plan can go to dine with their family. However, anyone who wants to dine in and have a healthy meal can choose extra items which are not on the delivery menu but are relatively healthy nonetheless. This includes a healthy Caesar’s salad, gluten free desserts and juices which are all nutritious options for a meal out.

Mongolian rice: Low in oil

A question which most people ask the staff at Eat Right is how anyone can make koththu or a Mongolian stir-fry healthy which for them is a simple matter of portion size. Their koththu has no egg, lots of vegetables and protein and little oil.

Eat Right is at 42, Dutugemunu Street, Kohuwela and is open Monday to Saturday from 8.30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Anyone who signs up for a meal package will be delivered breakfast at 8 a.m., lunch at 1 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. while special requests are accommodated as far as possible. Delivery is free from Colombo 1-10, while selected suburbs need to pay an additional charge.

Eat Right can be contacted through their Facebook page or their hotline 011-4247247.
