“Watercolour is my favourite medium because it is a friendly and beautiful medium – I love the way it moves on paper. This exhibition is titled “Impression” as I am trying to provide an impression through my brush strokes to the audience of my paintings -landscapes, religious places, portraits and still life.”

The young artist U. G. Kumarasinghe, a BA (Special) graduate of Visual Arts & Design from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka is holding his first solo exhibition of watercolour paintings on September 10 and 11 from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m at the Lionel Wendt Gallery, Guildford Crescent, Colombo 7.

I am holding this exhibition to display my style, my techniques and my skills in handling the watercolour medium, as well as to receive feedback and criticism, he says, adding that he believes constructive feedback and criticism is important for personal and professional development. His aim is to be a professional watercolour artist in the future and he has been inspired by a few exceptional watercolour artists such as Milind Mulick, Rajkumar Sthabathy in India and Palitha Gunasinghe in Sri Lanka.

Kumarasinghe is currently working as an art teacher at Handungamuwa Secondary School in Matale.
