The final selection for the Sri Lanka netball team to participate in the 10th Asian Senior Netball Championship to be held in Thailand will take place at the Katunayake Air Force courts on June 7 and 8 commencing at 8.30 a.m. each day.

The final twelve players will undergo a fitness test and will be sent to Nuwara Eliya to get accustomed to the higher altitude weather conditions as Thailand is experiencing a cold climate at this time of the year. On a directive of Dayasiri Jayasekera, the Minister of Sports the dissolved the earlier selected pool and a new pool of 18 was picked which under went training to the final stage.

Eleven Asian team had confirmed their participation will compete in two groups. Sri Lanka will play in Group B along with UAE, Afghanistan, Japan, Malaysia and Brunei while in Group A will consist defending champions Singapore, Hong Kong, Thaipe, Maldives and host Thailand. Notable absentees from last year’s tournament are India, Vietnam and Myanmar while Afghanistan, UAE and Thailand will be making their maiden appearance in the championship. In the hope of developing netball in the Emirates the organisers had invited UAE for their participation.

The curtain raiser of the tournament will be the Sri Lanka, UAE match.
