‘Adaraneeya Kathawak’: The love story begins to unfold

A ward winning filmmaker Priyantha Colambage’s newest film ‘Adaraneeya Kathawak’ (A melody of Love), a romantic musical drama is to be screened in Sri Lanka soon.

‘Adaraneeya Kathawak’ featuring Hemal Ranasinghe, Udari Warnakulasooriya, Bimal Jayakodi, Aruni Rajapaksha in the lead roles, the film is co-produced by Chaminda Gamage and Priyantha Colambage for C2 Creations.

The music for ‘Adaraneeya Kathawak’ is composed by Udara Samaraweera with lyrics written by Upul Shantha Sannasgala, Nilar N. Casim, Nandana Vikramage, Chaminda Gamage and Priyantha Colombage.

‘Adaraneeya Kathawak’ revolves around a young musician couple and it unravels their relationship which goes beyond an ordinary love. Abhimana Jayawardena (Hemal Ranasinghe) is a young singer, who is ready to help young and aspiring musicians to go up in the ladder. He comes across Piyawi a talented singer at a reality show, where he is a judge. Abhimana is impressed by her talent and believes that this girl will go up to the final round.

Hailing from a remote village, Piyawi aims to win the reality show is to get the prize money to spend on her ailing father.

Unexpectedly she is dropped from the talent show. Everybody including Piyawi thinks that Abhimana is responsible for this but he too is confused as to why she had been suddenly dropped.

Shattered by all the dreams to win the reality show and help her father, Piyawi returns to the village. But Abhimana who comes to know that he is being misunderstood goes in search of Piyawi and this leads to a new journey in their lives but ends in tragedy.

Screenplay for the film is written by Uwani Chamika and Priyantha Colambage and camera is handled by Ruwan Costa. Internationally renowned musician Chitral Somapala for the first time joins playback singing, while Amal Perera, Kasun Kalhara, Uresha Ravihari, Amila Perera and Kushani Sandarekha voiced the other singing in the film. Samaraweera directs the music while Nalin Prematillake does make up.

Manjula Ayagama handled the theatre direction.
