THE TALK OF THE TOWN

The talk in town is the Big Event in the faster version of the game which has already begun in a neighbouring country and fans are waiting to see it either on TV or ‘Live’. Before our heroes left for the event a big ‘tamasha’ took place at the headquarters with even the Big Man coming to wish the participants. All were in proper trim wearing blazers and ties and it was shocking to note that one leading participant attended the event wearing a T-Shirt! Was the T-Shirt wearer trying to say something with this attire or was he completely unaware of the importance of the situation!

TOO MUCH AT STAKE
A staggering 40 million rupees has been set aside to promote the Big Event by the organisers and the talk is how much will actually be spent for it and… where will the rest go! Followers of the Big Event are of the opinion that the amount is far too much and wondering how much of it will go as bribes. Your guess is as good as mine!

WHO IS IN CHARGE?
A children’s sports festival is to be held in Russia this June and plans are afoot to send a big contingent for the event. The body that has been asked to organise travel arrangements for the event are in a quandary as to who should actually be in charge of it as the schools section as well as another organisation that are also dealing with children have both forwarded their plans.

SIMILAR SITUATION
A similar situation has risen regarding an athletics event to be held in Singapore in the coming months, probably in June this year as there are two bodies dealing with this type of sports. A big tussle has now risen as to who should be in charge and there are powerful lobbies pulling for both these sports bodies where veterans are concerned.

BAD WORDS
Back to the most popular sport where three schoolboys were suspended by officials due to misconduct. One leading player has been suspended for five matches for throwing the ball at a fielder whereas bad words were used on him at the game, including several ‘almost’ physical confrontations. The player had reported this to the decision makers on the ground and the matter was reported to the body concerned, who found the player guilty. But it looks as if there will be no change in the decisions already taken as a former player, who is currently a top white coat man, had got involved in the fracas to save the name of his alma mater.

MERE SPECTATORS
Still on the same subject after the ‘tamasha’ officials and VIPs mingled with each other and in order to keep up the camaraderie badges were pinned on each other as a mark of good gesture. The strange thing is two leading players who tried to pin these badges on the Big Man were unable to do so and they were subjected to be mere spectators, when in fact they should have been at the centre of the hub!
