Service station attendant electrocuted to death

A vehicle service station attendant was electrocuted while washing a vehicle in the Kotahena area on Wednesday a Coroners Court was told.

The deceased was identified as 18-year-old Jayarajah Nilanjan from Trincomalee.

Giving evidence before the Inquirer into Sudden Deaths M. Ashroff Rumi, a co-worker of the deceased 25-year-old Inran Mohammad said that Mr. Nilanjan started work at the vehicle service station about a week ago.

He said the deceased was washing a double cab when the incident took place.

“The water hose he was using to wash the vehicle became disconnected from the pump and he went to fix it.

While he was doing it he fell on the floor unconscious,” Mr. Mohammad said adding that he rushed to the scene and switched the motor off.

“We rushed him to the National Hospital. On the way, blood started gushing from his mouth and nose,” he said.
Mr. Nilanjan died after admission.

The hospital’s Judicial Medical Officer U.M.M Aaqif said death was due to electrocution.

Mr. Rumi has ordered an investigation into the youth’s death. He ordered the police to bury the body without cremating it. More evidence is to be produced before the Coroners Court on November 15.
