Ranil, Maithree in Japan for five days

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday commenced a five-day visit to Japan .

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe held bilateral talks with Premier Wickremesinghe yesterday at the breakfast reception held at Kyoto International Conference Center to welcome the Sri Lankan delegation.

In exceptional circumstances extended only to very few world leaders, the Japanese PM is to meet PM Wickremesinghe again today at Mr. Abe’s office in Tokyo. PM Wickremesinghe is to address the Japanese parliament during his visit.

“The Sri Lanka Prime Minister has been allocated 30 minutes to address the parliament. This itself demonstrates how well our PM was received in Japan,” said Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Japan Prof. Dhammika Ganganath.

Meanwhile, during his stay in Japan Mr Wickremesinghe and his wife Prof Maithree Wickremesinghe are to meet with Emperor Akihitho and the Empress.

Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera, Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake and Minister of Science Technology and Research Minister Susil Premajayantha are among the delegation.
