In bid to popularise green energy concept Wasana Trading Lanka (Pvt) Ltd has launched 100 electric motor vehicle plug-in points countrywide.
The charge points have been set up to meet a shortfall in the technological and service support presently available to owners of electric motor vehicles in Sri Lanka, who can now avail themselves of the facilities at very competitive prices, a top official of the company said.

These charge stations were opened in accessible locations, and six charging points were set up along the Southern expressway.
Wasana Trading is also in the process of developing an app for use on smartphones that will enable owners of electric motor vehicles locate the charge point closest to them
“The electric car is a brand new technology which is 100 per cent environment-friendly and has many other benefits as well,” explained Indika Sampath Merenchige, Director, Wasana Trading at a media conference in Colombo.

“This accounts for its escalating demand around the world. But in Sri Lanka, the demand for electrical cars has not kept pace with international trends due to the lack of accessible charging points, when compared with the ready availability of fuel for petrol and diesel vehicles,” he added.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Wasana Trading and Vega Technologies, to set up rapid charging points throughout the country in the near future.
Wasana Trading Director Asiri Dayan Merenchige and Vega Technologies Director Beshan Kulapala were the signatories to the agreement.

“In an era of environment pollution which has had detrimental effects on many countries, this step taken by Wasana Trading to popularise 100 per cent environment- friendly electric cars must be viewed as an act of national importance,” said M. N. De Silva, Activity Director, of Canowin Hotel and Spa and of the Southern Expressway Canowin Arcade.

Owners who re-charge their electric vehicles at charge points set up by Wasana Trading have the added advantage of a charge card for use at any of these points at any time of the day at a discounted price, stated Vega Technologies Director Mr. Kulapala.
