Vehicle registration frauds at the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) including one instance where super luxury vehicles were imported under the pretext of motor cycles are continuing unabated with the tax losses running to billions of rupees, official sources revealed.

Those malpractices began during the previous regime with the connivance of some officials attached to the DMT and it was exposed by government auditors, but no action has been taken as yet, a senior official of the department said.

The registration of super luxury vehicles registraion was being carried by producing forged documents, an audit query revealed. But not even a proper internal investigation into this massive fraud has been initiated, he disclosed.

An inquiry into the import of eight luxury vehicles during the previous regime is still pending, he said, adding that the present administration should rectify these malpractices immediately.

Those vehicles were imported to the country under the guise of motor cycles where these luxury vehicles were registered with ‘forged’ Customs declarations (CUSDEC).
When the auditors checked with the Customs Department it was revealed that seven CUSDECs have been forged and according to the details Customs have revealed the import of motor cycles instead of luxury vehicles.
