SEF provides 150 schols a year at Rs. 90,000 each to needy students

The 25-year old Serendib Education Foundation (SEF) recently held its annual awards and felicitation ceremony in Colombo with the event being attended by dignitaries, donors, scholarship award winners and key members of the SEF. The event commenced with interviews of potential scholarship recipients from many parts of the island, according to a media release issued by the SEF.

These are students who excelled at the GCE O Levels and A Levels but due to poverty and financial issues they were unable to proceed with further studies.  The SEF gives around 150 scholarships annually, each scholarship averaging around Rs. 90,000 per student. Well known educationist Dr. Uvais Ahamad, entrepreneur Fouzul Hameed and SEF President Mohammad Suhaib were among those who spoke.

The SEF release said that most speakers stressed on the importance of education and the necessity to proactively assist under- privileged students with the necessary funding.
