It’s a story of courage, a story of hope, a story of bitter loss. Few would not be familiar with ‘The Diary of a Young Girl’- the tragic and heartrending story of Anne Frank. The young Jewish girl’s account of her captivity in the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands in World War 11, first published in 1947 in Dutch, after the end of the war, was a bestseller the world over and translated into numerous languages.

Keeping her story alive in around 80 countries, the Anne Frank House in the Netherlands, a museum dedicated to Anne Frank, has brought its exhibition to Sri Lanka with the assistance of the Embassy of the Netherlands. The exhibition has been translated into Sinhalese and Tamil, making Anne Frank’s story accessible to all.

Interestingly, the team from Anne Frank House has trained local students to walk you through the informative panels and they will be speaking in a language of your choice. If however you prefer an English translation, request a hand-out before you make your way through the exhibits.

The exhibition-Anne Frank-A History for Today” has been enlightening both young and old from last Wednesday and is in its last day today at the Goethe Institute down Gregory’s Road, Colombo 7. The exhibition is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. today, Sunday, February 1.
