Talents in television honoured
The eleventh Raigam Tele’es, tele-awards ceremony to recognise the talents in television medium, will be held on June 12 at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre, Colombo. With almost 50 awards covering areas of direction, acting, singing and technical talents and awards will be given to both multi-episode tele-dramas as well as single-episode tele plays. In order to improve the quality of television programmes awards will also be presented to best efforts in News Reading, News Reporting, Current Affairs, Educational, Children’s, Musical, Reality, and Political Programmes.
Voting through SMS to select the most popular actor, actress, and tele-drama will be opened from May 10 and will close on June 10. Selected 25 who participated in the SMS voting will receive two tickets each to witness Raigam tele’es 2014.
Honouring the pioneers in the television field ‘Prathibha Prabha’ awards will be awarded to prominent personalities who contributed to build and develop the TV industry. Dr. D.B Nihalsinghe, Shan Wickramasinghe, Kalashoori Titus Thotawatta, Lucien Bulathsinghaia, Tony Ranasinghe, Dharmasena Pathiraja, Parakrama Niriella and Jayalath Manorathne were some of those honoured under this awards scheme earlier.
Headed by renowned writer, poet, make-up artiste Buddhadasa Galappaththi, the eight member panel of judges include Prof. Patrick Ratnayake,film critic and journalist Gunasiri Silva, journalist Jayantha Rukmanee Siriwardene, veteran cinematographer M.D. Mahindapala, senior administrative officer Ranasignhe Dissanayake and filmmaker Inoka Sathyangani. Prof. S. J. Yogarajah will perform duties as special advisor in the Tamil medium.
The deadline for the acceptance of application for Raigam Tele’es is February 21 and the awards will be given only to teledramas and other programmes telecast during the year 2014 only.
