In fact Ananda had put themselves in line for an outright victory when play ended on day one. It was initiated by Sahan Arachchige, Sammu Ashan and Nisal Frnasisco who slammed half tons helping Ananda to a score of 289. Later Sammu and Nipun Chamika who together shared four wickets had the Bens struggling on 68 for 7 when play ended on day one.

The second day’s play saw St Benedict’s resuming from their overnight score putting in some stiff resistance through Ruvinda Niwunhella and Geethika Jayatilleke but they were ultimately bowled out for 127 with Sammu, and Dilanka doing the damage.

St Benedict’s made to follow on with a deficit of 162 runs failed again. Only with Janindu Karunatilleke who made a 46 made any impression. The rest of the Benedictine batsmen succumbed to Dilanka’s spin who grabbed six wickets. Once again Sammu three bagged 3 wickets to bundle them out for a paltry 93.
