DO YOUR JOB

“Do your job without interfering in matters that does not concern you.” This bit of advice was given by a new minister when he addressed the gathering at a key sports body. He was obviously referring to somebody and everyone in the audience apparently knew whom the minister was talking about. The man concerned has a habit of involving himself in matters that does not concern him. So came this timely warning.

PETITIONS GALORE

Even before the new minister could take his seat he was showered with a bundle of petitions. “It looks as if I have to see to these petitions, instead of attending to my work,” the new minister said. These petitions against various officials in this particular sports body had been prepared by disgruntled persons who had worked in the earlier regime and when the time was ripe they had decided to send these letters to the new minister.

LACKING INTEREST?

Athletics which had won several medals in the international field was marked by the absence of a well known athletic club who had not held their AGM nor had held any meets in 2014. This particular sports body is headed by a former sports minister and has in their ranks well known sprinters who had won international fame. Has this body lost its interest in this particular field? If so why?

THE NEW NETBALL COURT

A new netball court at the Torrington Square is causing a lot of concern. Players who are training for international events on it have complained that it has not been constructed properly. Last week three players sustained severe injuries and one of them from Jaffna has even threatened legal action. Millions had been spent to construct it all of no avail There is a world contest in the offing in Australia and also a Asian youth tournament in Singapore. Where can these players train now?

LOOKING FOR GREENER PASTURES?

When the new minister took charge of the key sports body, a certain lady who even addressed gatherings in support of the former regime over TV and at public meetings, was spotted at the gathering. Everybody concerned wanted to know what she was doing amongst this gathering. Now that the grapes had turned sour could she be looking for greener pastures?
