NTB wins Governor’s Cup

Nations Trust Bank led by Tharindu Ariyawansa lifted the Governor’s Cup for the first time, dethroning the Defending Champions, Commercial Credit and Finance, at the 3rd Credit Information Bureau of Sri Lanka (CRIB), 6-a-side Cricket Tournament concluded at the P. Sara Oval last Sunday.

A record number of 74 men’s teams and 39 women’s teams participated in the tournament which commenced last Saturday. A total of 114 matches were conducted over the two days on four pitches.

NTB beat Commercial Credit by one wicket with one delivery to spare in the Men’s final; chasing a victory target of 69 runs, NTB needed 18 runs in the last over, bowled by Commercial Credit captain, Anura Prasad Dias. NTB, last man, Sampath Srilal slammed three successive sixes in the third, fourth and fifth deliveries to achieve victory.

The match between the Bankers and the Non-Banking Financial Institutions, played for the brand new GM’s Plate was an introduction to the tournament. The Bankers led by Johnathon Alles, Managing Director HNB won the match by eight runs.

Central Bank led by Chandrika Rajapaksa won the women’s tournament, beating the debutants, State Mortgage and Investment Bank in the final.

In the Men’s Play off for the third place, Peoples Bank beat Senkadagala Finance.

At a glittering post Tournament presentation, the awards were given away by the Governor Central Bank, Ajith Nivaard Cabral and a host of distinguished invitees.

Women’s Tournament Results:

Quarter-finals: Siyapatha Finance beat Assetline Leasing; Central Bank beat Singer Finance; SMI Bank beat The Finance Co.; Std. Chartered Bank beat NTB.

Semi-finals: Central Bank beat Siyapatha Finance; SMI Bank beat Std. Chartered Bank.

Final: Central Bank beat State Mortgage and Investment Bank.
