Kandy paddlers clash for Sakuna Challenge

Over 500 paddlers are expected to compete at the 3rd Table Tennis Championship for the Sakuna Challenge Trophy which will be worked off on October 25 and 26 at the Jagath Rajapaksa International TT Complex in Doluwa, Kandy. The defending champions of the Men’s and Women’s Open titles Nirmala Kannangara of MAS Holdings and Ridmi Karandanaarachchi of Mahamaya Girls’ School will eagerly look forward to retain their respective titles as they join in a fleet of other paddlers who are equally keen to lay their hands on the main prizes.

The tournament will be held under 14 different categories namely for the age groups of Under-8, 10, 12, 15 and 18 for boys and girls, the two main events – the Men’s and Women’s Open and two different events for veterans.

The tournament is conducted by the Kandy District Table Tennis Association and will be played for the Central Province Table Tennis Championship with the Sakuna Challenge Trophy on offer for the two main winners in addition to cash rewards. The closing date for calling in entries has been extended till October 14 for the categories of Open and Veteran events. Calling in entries for other categories closed on Friday. According to organisers entry forms can be downloaded from KDTTA website – www.kandytabletennis.com.
