Cabinet approves Rs 1,610 m academic building for Postgraduate Institute of Medicine

Cabinet has approved a proposal from Higher Education Minister, S.B. Dissanayake, for the construction of an eight-storied academic building, at a cost of Rs 1,610 million, for the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine.

Government will provide funds for the project, while construction is to be completed in 3 years, starting this year.

The new building will cater to the increased national demand for Medical Specialist training and to improve the quality of Medical services in Sri Lanka, the Minister informed Cabinet.

Meanwhile, Cabinet also approved a proposal by Minister Dissanayake to award tenders for infrastructure development of Jaffna, Sabaragamuwa, Kelaniya, Peradeniya, Buddhist & Pali and Eastern Universities

Cabinet approval was granted to call for limited bids from five eligible contractors who have been successfully engaged in construction work.
