Directed by Prashalini Peiris, the choristers-both young and old-will explore a range of genres with this show as they also celebrate the school’s 10 year anniversary. Prashalini formed the Cantabile School of Singing in 2004, and since then the school has staged many shows including ‘Beat It’, ‘Sparkle’ and in 2012, ‘Reach’. Like its predecessors ‘Dazzle’ will be a celebration of the strides made by Prashalini’s students over the last two years; “I’ve got some very talented kids who’ve sung with the choir for a while now,” she says. “It’s great to be able to give them the opportunity to share that with others.” There’s nothing like seeing the more reserved, quieter of her students shine on stage, she adds. “That’s the great thing about a show like this-it really brings everyone together!”

‘In a singing style’ is what Cantabile stands for, but audience members can expect more from these students. The consummate performers, will bring to the stage a fusion of song and dance. They’ll be exploring a variety of genres-a mixture of choral styles including semi classical, broadway, pop, jazz, rock and acapella arrangements will be presented. Artists such as Freddy Mercury, Michael Jackson, Pharrell Williams, Boyzone, Taio Cruz, Bruno Mars, Whitney Houston, FUN, LMFAO and numbers from Frozen, Pitch Perfect, GLEE, American Idol and popular hits from famous musicals such as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Evita’ and ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ are set to take centre stage. Cantabile is home to over a hundred students, and this show will feature over 70 choristers aged a seven to a well-seasoned 35 years of age. The intermediate and senior students will be choreographed by Ashanti Colombage while the juniors will be choreographed by Keshia Kumarsen.

The Asteria female choir directed by Mahen Peiris will also take the stage for a guest performance.
‘Dazzle-In a Singing Style’ will
take place at the Bishop’s
College Auditorium on
Saturday, September 27, 2014.
