September 19 is going to be a Friday the schoolboy cricketers will certainly never forget, at least for some time. That will be the day when the 35th Bata-the Sunday Times Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2014 comes to an end with a glittering ceremony, of course with the participation of the deserving award winning schoolboy cricketers, their friends, coaches and supporters. This time the venue will be the Main Auditorium of Musaeus College situated at Rosmead Place in Colombo. The event will certainly be houseful as almost all the recipients and their well wishers are keenly awaiting this show to come alive any moment after a long wait.

Kusal Mendis won the top prize last year

The cynosure of the show will be the winner of the main award, none other than that elegant batsman Sadeera Samarawickrama, of St. Joseph’s College who went all the way to become a useful allrounder in the Sri Lanka Under-19 outfit. Sadeera, also a useful part time spinner and a handy wicketkeeper, will certainly look forward to celebrate his day to the fullest.

The winners will be further motivated with the presence of Sanath Jayasuriya, the chief guest of the show. Jayasuriya, the current Chief of Selectors at Sri Lanka Cricket, is known for his brand of powerful batting and the energy he leashed on the field, be it at bowling or fielding. His words of wisdom will definitely be guidance towards the playing careers of the budding cricketers who are in anticipation of a bright future at the highest level.

Among those expected to grace the ceremony are officials from the Bata Shoe Company, Wijeya Newspapers, Sri Lanka Cricket, Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association, parents and coaches of the schoolboy cricketers.

Besides the giving away of awards and motivating speeches, the evening will be filled with other activities as well. A renowned western band will be in attendance with some popular local artists expected to perform, tempting those who are seated to move to its rhythm. New dancing gigs by Prashadi and her troop will give the crowd a mesmerizing experience.

All in all the organisers of the event have made all arrangements to ensure that attendees go home with everlasting memories. The show will begin at 5.00pm on September 19 and is expected to wind up after exciting five hours.
