Rugby at Science grounds today
View(s):The Division 1B Cup and Plate semi-finals of the Western Province Schools Under-16 15-a-side Rugby Championship will be played at the Science College ground in Mt. Lavinia today. Eight teams from 30, have advanced to the crucial knockout stage which will ensure final berths in the Cup and Plate segments of the competition, which are scheduled for July 7 at the Royal College Sports Complex in Colombo.
The showdown will begin with the first Plate semi-final game between Thurstan College and Mahanama College at 3.00pm followed by the second encounter between Lalith Athulathmudali Maha Vidyalaya and Ananda College at 3.45pm.
The Cup semi-finals will follow soon after. C.W.W. Kannangara Maha Vidyalaya will take on Lumbini College in the first game at 4.30pm followed by the second game between Prince of Wales’ College and St. John’s College Nugegoda at 5.15pm. The winners of the Plate semi-finals will advance to the final scheduled to be played at the Royal College Sports Complex on July 7 at 2.45pm. The two winning teams from today will lock horns for the Cup championship soon after at 3.30pm.
After the completion of the Division IB deciders the two finals of the All-Island Schools Under-16 15-a-side Division IA championship will be played next at the same venue. In the Plate final Isipathana College will meet S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia at 4.15pm while Bradby Shield rivals Trinity College and Royal College will meet in the Cup final of Division IA at 5.00pm.
