the best of the rest when the duo bagged the prestigious most outstanding awards in the boys and girls categories at the 21st Milo Sri Lanka Schools Colours Awards ceremony which was held at the BMICH last Friday.

The annual awards ceremony annually organised by the Ministry of Education along with the Sri Lanka Schools Sports Council is sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd who has been supporting it for over two decades with the athletes being felicitated for their performances that they achieved in the year 2013.

In the boys category there were three other recipients vying for the award but Randeniya with his prolific past records who also holds the national record in the 110m hurdles event was unanimously adjudged the winner.

Randeniya with his top notch performances in the year 2013 was way ahead of the other trio having represented his country at four international meets after his successful campaign at the Sir John Tarbet Athletics Championships, South Asian Junior Athletics

The up-and-coming recipient in the boys’ category Dinal Thisara Doluweera of Ananda receiving his award from chief guest Bandula Gunawardena, Minister of Education

Championships and at the Asian Junior Athletics Championships.

Raheem the winning recipient in the girls’ category too had a successful campaign and the year 2013 could no doubt be termed as her best so far where she broke several records and had the honour of qualifying to the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing, China.

Apart from these two the organisers presented awards to two up and coming athletes in both the categories. The boy’s award was won by Dinal Thisara Doluweera of Ananda for his extra-ordinary performance in the sport of chess while up and coming athlete Lakshini Sarangi Silva of Sri Sumangala BV Panadura took the girls’ award.

Visakha Vidyalaya Colombo took away the award for the best school for being outstanding in sports for the year 2013. Bandula Gunawardena, Minister of Education was the chief guest while Ganeshan Ampalawana, Managing Director, Nestle Lanka Ltd graced the occasion as the guest of honour.
