Rukmalgama CC in convincing win
View(s):Rukmalgama CC notched up a convincing 55 runs win over Egoda Uyana CC in the Colombo District Cricket Association (CDCA) Division III 50-Over League Tournament, 2nd round match at Padukka, last Saturday.
Rukmalgama CC, who won the toss and batted in a match reduced to 46 overs due to the late arrival of Egoda Uyana team, put up a challenging 258 for 7 in 46 overs, riding on a well compiled, unbeaten century by Kaushal Perera (108 not out, inclusive of six sixes and ten fours) and a swashbuckling 92 runs, with eight sixes and six boundaries by Dhanushka Abeywickrama
RCC opening bowlers, Heshan Wijesinghe (2 for 9) and Shyamal Perera (2 for 23) made early inroads in to the Egoda Uyana batting to put them on the defence, losing 3 for 25.
Egoda Uyana fought back gamely with a 105 runs stand for the 4th wicket between D. Devinda (70) and Niroshan Fernando (48).
As RCC skipper, Sahan Wijeratne introduced his predecessor, Rajitha Samaranayake (playing his 1st match this season) into the attack, the match took a U-turn , as Samaranayake not only broke the partnership but he polished off the rest of the batting with his nagging medium pacers to finish with 5 for 19 in 5.5 overs, Egoda Uyana were dismissed for 203 runs in 38.5 overs.
Rukmalgama will meet Katubedda CC in their next game on 28th June again at Padukka.
Padukka seems to be the happy hunting ground for Rukmalgama with heavy scoring wins against SL Architects by 250 runs and Liberty CC by 257 runs, in their 1st round matches played earlier.
