Sri Lanka musclemen won a tally of nine medals — four gold, three silver and two bronze — at the 48th Mr. Asia Bodybuilding Championship 2014 concluded at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo yesterday.

Sri Lanka won gold medals in the Masters’ Over-50 years, Men’s 60kg, 65kg and 70kg weight categories while the hosts secured three silver medals in 55kg, 60kg and 100kg categories while snatching two bronze medals in the Junior 70kg and 55kg weight classes.

Gold medals for Sri Lanka were won by K.M.D. Silva (Masters Over-50), Y.M. Amila (60kg), S.P. Siriwardene (65kg) and Niranjan Kumara (70kg). B.A.S. Prasanna (55kg), Sampath Silva (60kg) and Anton Pushparaj (100kg) won the silver medals while Dharshana Ranmudu (55kg) and Mojitha Adhikaram (Junior 70kg) secured bronze medals.

The two-day mega bodybuilding event hosted by Sri Lanka had 285 competitors from 29 countries across Asia. Sri Lanka hosted an event of this magnitude after three decades according to bodybuilding experts.
