Inland fishing in Sri Lanka – can you help?

View(s):

Somasiri Devendra, Jayantha Jayewardene and Stefan D’ Silva are gathering information for a detailed publication on inland fishing in Sri Lanka. It will not be a scholarly publication but one aimed at preserving a fast-vanishing way of life. The material will be for the interested reader who has a love for Sri Lanka.

They will explore and photograph inland fishing methods, types of nets used, craft used, fishing traps, tools and equipment, fishing methods unique to local areas and any other issue that may arise related to this project. They will also talk to knowledgeable people and those involved in the industry to gather as much information as possible.

They are only too aware that they have little more than enthusiasm to embark on this project and are appealing to members of the public who have any interest in this topic, or have any experiences they would like to impart, to contact them and become a partner in this endeavour.

This information is being gathered, recorded and published for the benefit of the future generations of this country. Please contact Somasiri Devendra on 0718 266081 or write to 194/3, Quarry Road, Dehiwela, or email your information directly to indfishprojects@gmail.com
