WSO2 hosts Colombo conference next month

A Sri Lankan IT firm, whose software is used in some of the latest advancements in Boeing’s airline systems and in the next line up of Mercedes vehicles, will be hosting its annual conference in Colombo from March 24 – 26 at the Water’s Edge, Battaramulla.
Considered a leading middleware company, WSO2 would be conducting this conference WSO2Conf Asia 2014 for the third time under the theme “Building a Connected Business.”

Keynote speakers at the conference would be Dialog Axiata PLC Group Chief Executive Dr. Hans Wijesuriya, and the Commonwealth Bank Head of Innovation and Digital Financial Services Technology Asia 0Rana Peiris.

WSO2 Founder Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana said the conference would also be held later in the year in Barcelona in June and San Francisco in October in a bid to reach out to the users in Europe and the US as well with participation expected to be around 250 at both these. The Asian segment next month would attract a crowd of about 350 participants.

In addition, IT students have also sent in their applications for this year’s conference out of which WSO2 would be giving at least 50 of the students a special rate for participation.

The conference talks and hands-on tutorials would showcase how a connected business seamlessly integrates people, process, and data across an extended value chain, decreases interaction cost, and automatically adapts business activity in response to markt events.
The sessions will focus on: New enterprise integration architectures; Cloud technologies that transform application delivery; Enterprise mobility solutions; Enhancing business opportunities with big data analysis, enterprise governance and security; and Agile enterprise application development platform.

Post technical sessions each day would conclude with an evening networking event with live entertainment and an opportunity for participants to meet like-minded peers and discuss thoughts.

WSO2 gets into Boeing and Mercedes

WSO2 is a middleware company engaged in selling products that would be used to build applications and is deployed between the software and hardware components required in programmes for applications.

WSO2 Founder Dr. Sanjiva Weerawarana said, they have already signed up with the Mercedes company to assist in the back end infrastructure used to build a system that would enable future cars to ride on applications that could be accessed by the end user through an ipad or tablet in the vehicle itself. This future generation of cars would be coming out at least by next year and would not be available yet in the market, it was stated.

He pointed out that they were also part of the Boeing’s project in building a digital airline part of which was currently in operation among certain carriers.

In this, WSO2 would be involved in ensuring that all of their applications would be running on the entire platform of software to connect the network done by this Sri Lankan company. The company is already working with eBay, Cisco Systems US, British Airways, Dialog Axiata PLC, John Keells Holdings PLC, and the Dubai eGovernment.

This middleware firm provides an integrated enterprise application platform for enabling a business to build and connect both internally and externally for a wide range of services, software and applications using secure solutions, the company stated.
