Sri Lanka has been carrying out test runs for Bajaj’s all new vehicle called ‘quadricycle” designed to be a four wheeled mini taxi that is set to replace the humble 3-wheeler by ensuring more comfort and safety, industry sources said.Bajaj is reported to have sent its first prototypes to countries where the three-wheeler is popular like Sri Lanka, Columbia and Kenya.

Officials of Bajaj’s local dealer confirmed that they had received the prototypes for test runs in Sri Lanka but were unable to comment any further.

This new vehicle had reportedly fallen short of being called a car and even in India it would be looking for a new classification for the Bajaj Auto RE 60. Marketed as a green vehicle with carbon emissions of 60g/km it would be compact and lightweight at only 400 kg, the company’s website stated.

Managing Director of Bajaj Auto Rajiv Bajaj told Indian media that they would initially produce 5000 of these vehicles.

Bajaj, considered India’s largest manufacturer of three-wheelers and second largest for bikes, had reportedly found a decline in demand for 3-wheelers lately. The proposed vehicle is to have foldable weather proof windows.
