Sixty years of Sri Lanka-German diplomatic relations seen through the eyes of children will be the theme of an art exhibition to be held at the Goethe Institut, Colombo 7 from October 29-31. The participating children, mostly from far flung areas, come from different ethnic backgrounds, speak different languages from Sinhala, Tamil to German and are students from Pundoluoya Tamil Maha Vidyalaya, St. John’s College and Uduvil Girls’ College, both of Jaffna, Science College, Mount Lavinia Lavinia where Sinhala students predominate and Fichte Gymnasium, a popular Grammar School in Karlsruhe in Southern Germany. The organiser of the exhibition Mrs. Helga Olga Schafheutle, the President of the Sri Lanka-German Friendship Society, who also organised some of the competitions and events at the highly successful Street Festival held two weeks ago on Nelum Pokuna Road, Colombo 7 and earlier the Water Exhibition says that she is overwhelmed by the genuine interest shown by the young participants, Principals and art teachers of these schools who are mostly from remote areas.

The exhibition is sponsored by several German companies and Sri Lankan Airlines with cash prizes included for the winners of each school. Prizes will be given away by the German Ambassador Dr. Juergen Morhard on October 31 at the conclusion of the exhibition.
