Last Saturday saw the unveiling of the biggest bridal show as the title, “Brides of Sri Lanka-A 100 Brides” indicated. Organised by the Brides of Sri Lanka magazine to mark their 25th edition as well as the launch of their coffee table book, the glamour event took place at the Cinnamon Grand.

On the ramp were 120 brides and more than 20 grooms dressed by 58 of Sri Lanka’s leading beauticians, among them, leading names like Ramani Fernando, Yoland Aluwihare, Premasiri Hewavasam, Keerthi Sri

Karunaratne, Nayana Karunaratne, Bernie Balasuriya, Fouzul Hameed, Wedding Dreams, Janaki Kurukulasuriya, Wills Design, Michelle Vanlengenberg, Deepika Gunasekara, and Kanthi and Sithara Fernandopulle.

From long dresses to short ones, sarees styled in Kandyan, Indian and low country mode as well as brides representative of Hindu and Muslim communities, the event showed a wide spectrum of designs that brides can choose from, with colours set in the typical bridal palette ranging from pearl white, ivory, silver, gold and beige.
The most noticeable fact about this show was that every dress matched the features of the model. A petite model would show off a dress with a longer skirt with an elaborate hair style to give her stature.
All kudos for a well-presented show goes to Editor of the Brides of Sri Lanka magazine and producer of the show, Nelun Haththella
“I always tell Nelun, that she’s a very dynamic lady. This is a very prestigious show and I am glad to be a part of it,” said veteran beautician Harris Wijeyasinghe who displayed a beautiful collection of bridal wear.

The coffee table book showcases the best and the most creative designs of the show captured at a pre show shoot by seven of Sri Lanka’s well known wedding and fashion photographers, Rasanga Dissanayake, Dimitri Crusz, Danush De Costa, Studio 3000df, Studio U, Mahesh Mannapperuma and Arantha Sirimanne.

“I congratulate Nelun on this fantastic job. This production has been a success from day one. Every bride who comes to us for consultation has a copy of their magazine with them and I think nothing shows their success more,” said veteran beautician Ramani Fernando.
