The second intake for the Bachelor of Science Degree in Applied Accounting offered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) commenced recently.

The BSc. in Applied Accounting which has been approved by the University Grants Commission, is open for students with three passes (in any subject stream) at the GCE Advanced Level examination.

The degree is designed under two stages, namely the general degree programme which will be conducted over a period of three years covering six semesters and or the special degree which will be conducted over a period of four years covering eight semesters.
The primary aim of the degree programme is to create employable graduates with the required skills, competencies and industry knowledge to fulfill a successful accounting career. CA Sri Lanka is the only professional organization in the country currently offering both a recognised professional qualification in accounting as well as a degree in accounting.

The degree is conducted in English and is designed on the core subject disciplines of financial accounting, management accounting and financial management. In addition, there are several sub-core disciplines which are quantitative and management techniques, business economics, information and communication technology, management and law. The auxiliary discipline is business communication.

Throughout the curricula, emphasis has been given to the development of skills and core competencies in critical and creative thinking, analytical ability, commitment to life-long learning, adaptability to situations, negotiations, interpersonal relations and team work, time and stress management, problem-solving skills and leadership skills.

The degree programme is conducted by a fully-fledged faculty comprising of qualified professors, senior lecturers and industry professionals who are experts in the area.

The inaugural intake received an overwhelming response from students across the country with straight A students and a high-achieving 16-year old London AL student being among the inaugural batch of CA Sri Lanka’s first ever degree programme which commenced lectures mid this year.
