Sheran Fernando, Managing Director, SML Frontier Automotive at the launch of the ‘All New’ Range Rover in Colombo, recently. He noted that plans were afoot to open the new workshop by April 2014 with an investment of over US$500,000 with a new showroom on the cards and the setting up of the Defender assembly plant in Hambanthota.

The new Range Rover is the first SUV to be made in aluminium in the world which makes it stronger, lighter and more eco- friendly.
The vehicle features a revolutionary body structure, which is 39 per cent lighter than the steel body in the outgoing model. Among the new features is that the vehicle could search and detect a parking space and park the vehicle itself. The cruise control facility maintains a set distance with the vehicle in front and even bring the vehicle to a halt if it detects the car in front has stopped.

The Intelligent Emergency Braking could detect what the vehicle in front is doing and if a collision was imminent it would boost the pressure in the brakes to assist the driver with braking and assist to bring the car to a halt. The fourth generation of the unique Range Rover line, the new model has been developed from the ground up. It captures the innovative spirit and iconic design of the original model, which changed the world of motoring when it was launched over 40 years ago.
