The Sugathadasa Stadium was all decked up for the prize giving of a sports body and a particular lady was spotted sulking in the stands. This lady was heard saying that she is an advisor to the Big Man in the sport and that the reception she got at the prize giving was Luke warm. To counter this, officials of the sports body said that she is part and parcel of the sports body and does not need any special 
greeting. The lady was glamorously dressed hoping that she will get a grand welcome at the prize distribution but to be treated like a commoner had irked her a lot because during her hey days she had been a great athlete and won medals for the mother land.
Skilled translator
Usually players are selected to a team for their talent and skill. This time however a player had been entered into a team because he is fluent in a foreign language and it so happens that the coach of the team is a foreigner and he knows only to converse in that particular language. This translator was a player at one time but now he is in the team purely for his translation skills and not for any skill in the game!
The unhappy Bag Boy
The boys from Kiwi Land are here and playing to their hearts content. However a Bag Boy from the outstations who has been selected to at beck and call for the little Kiwis is not happy. He had stormed the office of the sport’s big man and had said that he was hoping that he would be appointed as a scorer at least because that is what he was good at. The sport’s big wig had apologised for not giving him his proper job and he had said that he will try to make his position better in the future.
The draw was the car
These days cars are a big draw at competitions. Two female athletes who were selected to take part in an athletics contest in Bangkok had withdrawn from the tour party. It was later learnt that these two athletes had withdrawn to take part in a similar competition in Nawalapitiya where a car has been listed as the prize. Their preference was winning the car and not representing the country. Also they prevented two other athletes from being selected to make the tour to Thailand.
Only two for trials
Notice has been sent that a team will be selected for a Beach Sports Tournament and when the big day arrived only two players had 
turned up for the trials. It looks as if no proper notification had been sent to the players about the trials. Now officials are planning to have the trials on a later date.
Big problem for gymnastic girl
Now comes the tale of a poor gymnastic girl who has been handed down a scholarship of Rs. 600,000 by the Japanese body to further her career in the sport. This girl is talented no doubt and since only an interim body is handling the sport at the moment the money had been channeled through this body to the poor athlete. She received half of the said amount and getting the balance funds is a big problem for her. She has to come all the way from the outstations to seek the balance of the funds only to be told that only an interim body is handling the sport and that it will take some time to give her the remaining amount. She is now wondering whether being talented in the sport is a headache or what!
